Petr Kopecký

Term of office 2027–2031

“The first term was about building the foundations. The second should be about making them count.”

Dear colleagues, dear students,

as you may already know, I have decided to stand again for Rector of our university. Just as I did four years ago, I would like to use this website to set out my view of how our university works. In the first stage I am offering an interview in which I look back and, at the same time, look ahead. In the Endorsements section I present the University of Ostrava through the eyes of others. The remaining sections (Student voices, Nominators, Media coverage) and, above all, my programme will be published here on 18 September.

I look forward to meeting you and to your questions and suggestions.

What I want to finish in a second term

  1. 01

Salaries will grow with the budget

The University’s greatest asset is its people. I want to continue directing funding to staff and students.

  2. 02

    Better conditions for doctoral candidates

A new PhD Academy in the University Library, and coordination of the round-table talks at the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports.

  3. 03

Completing the halls of residence and the refurbishments

Two new blocks at Hladnov, the buildings of the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Arts, and the Faculty of Fine Arts and Music.

  4. 04

    European research projects

A demographic decline and the end of a relatively generous programming period lie ahead of us. We have to be prepared.

  5. 05

    The intranet and measurable digitalisation

Fine-tune the intranet, cut duplicated communication and introduce a measurable plan for further digitalisation.
